My first visit here and WOW!  You've hit it on the money with this one.

My perspective from years of hiring and managing sales people and them more years providing sales automation solutions tells me that newly hired sales folks get very little guidance.  The bring a TON of false assumptions about the right way to sell and the good/tough ones learn what you've so eloquently stated above the hard way, bit by bit.

The good news is that its not really that difficult to stand out from the pack.</description>
